They stood before you: men of old, they spoke with such authority, grace and words of encouragement, yet with a depth of sorrow and concern. They said, ‘We paid the price, we have walked the walk and talked the talk, we have ploughed the fields and prepared the way… will you not step into the anointing that is here before you?’
Come, join those who have gone before you, says the Lord, join those who have fought the good fight and who have finished the race. They too ran headlong into barriers and walls that seemed impenetrable but with my grace, my love and my strength they were able to accomplish what others said was impossible!
You are part of this nation, this city, this land and I am calling you to take up again the mantle of those who have paid – and prayed – the price.
Hebrews 12:1-3
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
