God of the Generations

This is a year of family.  I am bringing my family together around the table of fellowship.  Where there has been discord, disconnection, and segregation, I am joining family back together.  Where there has been disunity across the generations, I am addressing the mindsets that perpetuate this.  In particular, I am removing false honour that patronises other generations, and I am removing the expectations of a lack of connection, understanding, and mutual respect.

As you gather simply around the table make space for connection, for a joining of hearts, and choose to focus on what ties you together. As you learn to listen to each other with fresh appreciation, you will learn to value and to celebrate each other. Allow me to teach you to see what I see, and you will create a safe space for me to bring home those who walked away.  You will create an environment where I can bring my hurting children and bring back those who walked away because they were misunderstood, crushed, frustrated, overlooked, and angry.  You will create a place where all can grow, participate, and flourish.

This is a season to build together and prioritise family. Not in an ungodly way that idolises them but in a way that champions, encourages, and releases them.  I am releasing a grace for generational connection in this season.  I am releasing an anointing on joint family ventures.

Activation: Allow the light of the Holy Spirit to search your heart for hidden mindsets and attitudes towards other generations by asking the question: “What stops me from connecting with older/younger people?”  It may be that He will want to take it to a more individual level and talk to you about specific people in your context.  This is also a time to choose forgiveness for those who have hurt you with their attitudes towards your own generation.  As you allow Holy Spirit to reveal wrong attitudes and mindsets, don’t just repent, but ask him to heal your heart and your vision so that you can see people through his eyes. This will allow you to celebrate who they are, including their differences.  Ask, “What generational differences do you want me to learn to celebrate?”

Acts 7:32a (NIVUK)

I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

2 Corinthians 5:16-217 (MSG)

Because of this decision we don’t evaluate people by what they have or how they look. We looked at the Messiah that way once and got it all wrong, as you know. We certainly don’t look at him that way anymore. Now we look inside, and what we see is that anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new. The old life is gone; a new life emerges!

 Ephesians 6:1-4 (TPT)

Children, if you want to be wise, listen to your parents and do what they tell you, and the Lord will help you. For the commandment, “Honour your father and your mother,” was the first of the Ten Commandments with a promise attached: “You will prosper and live a long, full life if you honour your parents.” Fathers, don’t exasperate your children, but raise them up with loving discipline and counsel that brings the revelation of our Lord.
