Don’t look back with longing on days gone by. Have I not said that I am doing a new thing? In this transition period, unsettled by the uncertainty and the newness, there are those of you who look back with longing to the familiarity of the way things were.
There is a place for looking back, and so in those moments where your heart would pull you backwards, turn it to your advantage. Look back and give thanks for the journey thus far. Look back and see my faithful hand in your life. Look back and celebrate the markers you have passed on your journey.
Remember where you were and give thanks for where you are, but don’t linger in this place. As you celebrate with me, I will release to you my courage for the future. I will release faith, and I will strengthen you for the days ahead.
Psalm 77:11-12 (NIV) I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.
Psalm 9:1 (ESV) I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.

Ask God to show you what, if anything, tempts you to look back. Ask God what you need to remember of his faithfulness and goodness in this season. Turn it into a prayer of thankfulness.
