Are you hungry? Are you thirsty? Are you tired? Do you need comfort? Do you need to be rescued? Do you want to know what Jesus is thinking about? Do you want to know what He is about to do? Then, draw near. He says, “Come close! Closer still!”
At the Passover, John, the beloved, was reclining at the table next to Jesus with his head on Jesus’ chest. That’s not near, that’s close! From this place, John could ask Jesus what He was about to do, and Jesus’ answer could be heard and seen by John.
“There is a space for you. Come closer!” He says this to the weary, the tired, the lonely, the ones needing rescue, to everyone, no matter what your condition or circumstance is right now. Now is the time to come closer to Him, to choose Him. With confidence and zeal for Him, run to Him and take your place!
John 13:23-25 NASB
Lying back on Jesus’ chest was one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved. So Simon Peter nodded to this disciple and said to him, “Tell us who it is of whom He is speaking.” He then simply leaned back on Jesus’ chest and said to Him, “Lord, who is it?”
Psalm 34:18 NASB
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
