Feeling exhausted? Drink deep!

Dehydration can lead to tiredness and I heard God say that one reason that many in the church are feeling exhausted (physically andspiritually) is not necessarily because of a lack of sleep but because they have not drunk enough ‘water’.

In the physical, stimulants like coffee and tea will only get you so far – ultimately they leave you even more tired and thirsty, though they might delay the inevitable. This is a warning to those who try to ‘fix’ their spiritual exhaustion through only study, reading and disciplines. These things are good, but alone they will not refresh your weary eyes; you need to learn how to spiritually drink the sufficient litres of water that your spirit needs, just as your physical body needs.

The cure for your exhaustion is to train yourself to drink deep of the living water, throughout your day: meditate on the Word, who is Jesus Christ; breathe deep of the Spirit; enjoy prayerful encounters with the living God; immerse yourself in deep, intimate worship. Take sips, cupfulls, bottlefulls, drink from the well!

John 4:10-14
Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”
“Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?”
Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
