Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
The Lord is bestowing spiritual gifts on His children and you have yours in your hands. Have courage to open your present from Him: God does not give bad gifts to His children but He gives us what we ask for.
Not only will he give us a gift that is perfectly designed for who He has uniquely created us to be but He also wants to come and spend time with us whilst we practise and use the gift. I saw kites flying in the sky and the Holy Spirit said that, just as a kite needs the wind to fly and when the wind comes and catches the kite it is effortless, so His gifts need Him to make them soar. The Spirit is the one who comes and provides the wind, all we need to do is open the box, take out the kite and hold on to the string, trusting God that, as we let out more string, so He will lift the kite into the air.
And so it is with our spiritual gifts: let go, do not clutch on to them too closely but practise and use them for the purposes they were given, trusting the Helper that He will always be there to give direction and to make things soar!
Matthew 7:8-11
For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. “You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.
